GAM.. Gemstone Art Museum Hoi An

We found this museum of gemstone minerals on the river front in Hoi An at 130 Nguyen Thai Hoc. Because of Jewel’s passion for gems and minerals we introduced ourselves to the owners Ms. Nga Duong and her father Mr. Dzung Duong who has collected the gemstone minerals and sculptures during the past twenty years. All the collection comes from  Vietnam, the majority from the north which makes it quite unique.

Mrs Nga Duong and her husband Mr. Marco Fantini (the designer of the museum) were very gracious and allowed us to photograph some of the collection and showed us over the museum including the upstairs section that is still under development and is nearing completion at time of writing this in May 2014.

The mineral specimens on display are truly magnificent examples of their kind. The collection also includes some beautiful carvings of ruby, sapphire, emerald, spinel, tourmaline, peridot and quartz. These carvings are to be displayed on the first floor of the museum.

Founded in 2013 thanks to Mr. Dzung Duong who is a passionate gemstone collector the Gemstones Art Museum is housed in a one hundred year old French colonial building. One of the purposes of the museum is to share the knowledge that Vietnam was and still is a point of reference for the extraction and sale of precious stones of high quality. For connoisseurs of jewels and precious objects a visit to GAM is a must. There is no charge made to view the display and visitors can quench their thirst in the green garden bar with a cold fruit drink or a glass of wine.  And whilst enjoying your wine be sure to purchase a unique piece of designer jewellery made personally by Mrs Nga Duong who studied jewellery design in Milan Italy.

Here are some pictures of the minerals on display.

About Willie Wombat

Wombats come from Tasmania which is the island state at the bottom end of Australia. We enjoy traveling and try to do a bit before we get too old to enjoy it anymore. We are currently both (Mr. & Mrs. Wombat) in our seventies so the time must come soon to pull up the armchairs and footstools and settle down to life on our 17 acre property 30 klm from Hobart which is the capital of Tasmania.
