The White House Restaurant resident group plays for us

Have driven past this “place” at night for weeks now and noticed the crowds streaming in around 8-9pm. Lots of motor bikes outside, parking on the narrow street is hard to find. It is next door to the BBQ restaurant which we found the other week and we thought it was a smoking den (due to BBQ smoke). Check the post on BBQ restaurant.

So one afternoon we wandered in (as Wombats do) to see what it was all about.

It was a restaurant on the banks of the Ping river with seating for about 200, a stage and lighting control booth, bar and a cheap menu. Looked a bit “daggy” in the light of day but it is amazing how night time changes things. 🙂

So we booked for an early table (away from the band which we imagined would be loud) and  in order to find parking within easy walking distance and dutifully arrived on time.

What we thought was going to be noisy and raucous turned out to be very pleasant evening with nice music played by the resident group. They played Thai songs which we found hard to follow but they also played some western ballads from a bygone era (still in our time) which we could quietly sing along to. We beat the local Thai’s on that one 🙂

After giving each band member a Koala key ring they played a couple of songs for us which we videoed. You can check them out below. They are in Thai but easy listening.

So we had a good evening, nice music, food was good as all Thai food is and the beer was cheap. We will return with friends next week before we head out of Thailand.

About Willie Wombat

Wombats come from Tasmania which is the island state at the bottom end of Australia. We enjoy traveling and try to do a bit before we get too old to enjoy it anymore. We are currently both (Mr. & Mrs. Wombat) in our seventies so the time must come soon to pull up the armchairs and footstools and settle down to life on our 17 acre property 30 klm from Hobart which is the capital of Tasmania.
