Xian (“See ann”) is the capital of Shaanxi province in China and a sub-provincial city. One of the most important cities in Chinese history, Xian was one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, because it has been the capital of 13 dynasties, to name a few, Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang. Xian was the starting point of the famed Silk Road.
The city has more than 3,100 years of history. It was called Chang’an, meaning “Forever Peace” in those old days. Xian is the largest and most developed city in the central to the northwestern part of China and is ranked among the 10 largest cities in the nation. If you are planning a trip to China, Xian is a stop you can not miss! It is most famously known as the “home” of the Terracotta Army. Click the link below.

Comments: We only spent three days in Xian so it is hard to judge. We stayed in a Hutong area which has it’s own charm. Our accommodation was a typical backpackers hostelry where you were made welcome and the atmosphere was very harmonious and friendly. Transport by bus is problematic but the train system is relatively easy. The area of the city we were in near the Bell and Drum Towers was full on, busy and had fantastic night markets (see videos). Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend a visit especially if you wish to see The Terracotta Warriors.
